Host Bihar rode on century each by G Tilak Raj and Anand Shukla to trounce Orissa by an innings and 135 runs on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna today. This was Orissa’s 12th defeat and fourth by innings margin in 16 Ranji Trophy matches against Bengal.
Put into bat, Orissa crumbled like a pack of cards, getting all out for a paltry 81. In reply, Bihar declared at 354 for six to take a first-innings lead of 273 runs. Tilak Raj and Shukla hit scored 115 runs each, while captain Ramesh Saxena contributed 52.
In the second innings, Orissa wicket-keeper Vinod Pendarkar and captain N N Swamy hit 51 and 41 respectively. But that could not save Orissa from innings defeat as they were bowled out for 138. S Roy and S Hiramat made first-class debut in this match for Orissa.
